RUGBY DELIVERED TOUR #RWC2019

The whole team, Red and Yellow teams, their coach, my colleague Okite and I in WP tshirt. I am a stormer btw.

I’ve always been a lover of life, that goes without question if you want to experience fun, attend a rugby event, be it local or international, but I would always recommend an international match. It much fun and adrenaline packed.

Two DHLers
I’m privileged to work with the most international company in the world that has is the official logistics partner of World Cup Rugby. So, when I saw an opportunity to host a Rugby match, I grabbed it and my journey started. I sent my application and they liked it, it wasn’t long when I received a congratulations message. I had been chosen to host the match and they would supply me with a rugby kit to be used on the match day. How ecstatic I got, it’s like i'd won a lottery. Made a few calls to by friends more like consultation. Well in the end I  had to come up with a team. Team red and yellow, which of course represents the official DHL colours.

My first thought went to Shamas Rugby foundation. I love their vision and what they are doing for young boys and girls. I will not dilute what they do but let you read all about them on their website as :

I had 2 proxies who helped me organize all this. Tende and Tony, both are Rugby players from local rugby teams. I involved them because they know more of rugby than I do, I’m more of a fan, I love watching rugby whilst having a good time with friends and a drink on my left hand. Hahaha.

Well well well, to fast forward, everything logistics was all set, the Kit had arrived the country from Twickenham and everybody was there. It was a sunny day, a good day for sports. We had a pretty big turnout than expected but that didn’t deter us from our plan to enjoy a game. We did some consultations with the coaches and directors of both the participating clubs Shamas and RuckIT and we decided to host a tournament. What??? A tournament. yes you can say that again. A tournament it is. We wanted all the boys to get a chance to play and a 15 aside game would have excluded some from participation. we did a 7 aside touch game and did an elimination game until we had winners, runners UP and a 3rd place play off position slot.
This was sooo much fun than i had expected. I even had some few rewards for the winners and the best player of the game. you could tell from the boys faces that they loved it. I loved it too. DHL loves Rugby and so do we.
We finally finished the tournament and took some lovely photos, exchanged ideas and contacts a very great opportunity for marketing and networking.
Well I hope these lovely kids get a chance to go to Japan and watch the RWC2019.

SAME SCRIPT - DIFFERENT CAST !

What made me pen this down is because of the unbearable pain I de go through eeh.

First and foremost, I started experiencing some irritations and itchiness in my ear then I noticed my outer ear (lobe) was starting to become pink / red and hot, like when you are burning with anger hahahaha. Well to ease the itching I used the ear swab to sort of clean or massage the canal and me oh my it was so relieving, problem is, I overdid it until I scratched or bruised my skin a little.

That night I danced a dance like never, I was woken by some excruciating pain in the middle of the night. How the hell can such a pain exist. I had some painkillers in my locker, well I took one so that I can get through the night. I don’t know how I managed but first thing in the morning I de go see an ENT specialist.

Of course, he asked me all sort of questions to understand my problem then he inspected my ear with a microscope. He noticed some small inflamed blisters on my ear canal. The good doctor said “The most common cause of ear pain is an ear infection, such as otitis media or otitis externa. Otitis media is an infection of the middle ear, while otitis externa is an infection of the ear canal. In this case, you have Otitis externa. Holly Shit, sounds complex. Me – Can you break that down? Doctor “Basically earaches are caused by injury, infection or irritation in the ear”. Well said.
He cleaned my ear, prescribed some 3 medication.
1. Boric Acid - ear drops
2. L’Onguent de Mupirocin USP (Zupricin) - some ointment
3. Bilastine (Ilaxten 20mg tablets) - anti-histamine to relieve the any form of allergic rhinitis. This is loved – may be used to treat itchy skin rashes.

I was grateful and went home and followed the instructions as given. Same old excruciating pain pounced back in the middle of the night. This time it came in full throttle. Holy Molly, this is the time you unleash all secrets you had, this is the kind of pain that can make you trade anything to relieve it. I felt as though the room is spinning. I went online to look for home remedies/learn more about ear aches.

A girl had to learn the component of the ear :)
My problem was at the Outer ear - ear canal

First they said I should try a warm compress around the ear, I tried that but it didn’t help, I read more. This time I was depressed. There is an article that said that there is no actual treatment for ear pain and that the ear is self-cleaning, blab la bla it will last for 3 weeks but they usually heal on their own. Ouch, 3 weeks? If I couldn’t handle 2 days, will I handle 3 weeks? no there was something that could be done to easy the Gadahn pain.

I survived the night but at the crack of dawn, I visited another hospital, another doctor. I told him everything, my pain, that I had visited another doctor but my condition was worsening.
Forgive my judgement he looked like a trainee, plus it was on a Sunday - fits well. I suspect he went online to google J JJ because he was asking me questions while checking out something on his computer. Walalala I was about to snap, I didn’t all I wanted was a solution to my pain. He used his phone flash light to examine my ear, and how he handled it, not very medical (gently) He grabbed my lobe which was also painful and I had to tell me to be gentle hahaahhah. Grab em by the lobe *sic

He said same thing as previous doctor, there is an inflammation that’s making your ear blocked and thus the reason for pain. Bro, I agree with that, so what’s the way forward? He went to his computer again. I humbly requested that on his prescription, he should give me a strong painkiller. He laughed but at least we agreed on something. Le Doc said I stop the previous medication, especially the ear drops as it was probably making the infected area wet, which is a conducive environment for bacteria to thrive / spread. I agreed instantly on that. Makes total common sense. He prescribed some antibiotics and diclofenac (mixture) injection and some take out meds. (Not fake news just Alternative facts – buhahahah in this case he is not a Fake Doctor but gave be alternative medication.) Fast forward

Let’s not talk about the drama at the nursing station while I was being “injected”. Personally, am not a fan of injection especially where I can see (my hand veins) I prefer the buttock. Story for another day.
Went home to chill waiting for medicine to take effect. Believe you me, I didn’t feel any results, ear was still blocked and painful AF. I dreaded another night of pain, this kinda pain is sent from the devil himself. It knocks in the middle of the night, time you can’t do nothing but writhe in pain. I had to think fast, I texted my sister to bring some chewing gums and PIRITON, I know most of you know this drug, it’s a drug that supposedly makes you sleep. This time I didn’t care about mixing drugs or something, all I wanted is pain to go away. She came knocking at around 6.30pm, I took one PIRITON and one Enzoflam, I chilled in bed waiting for a miracle.

Hahahah I was literally listening for the pain to ease or to feel sleepy. At around 8pm I could rest my head on that painful right side. I could feel some liquid coming out so I just placed a clean handkerchief on my pillow. I lay there thinking about many things in my life, mostly the pain in my ear and that’s how I thought my way into sleep.

Pain was gone. The ear was finally self-cleaning / clearing / opening. Wow, for the first time in 3 freaking nights I could have a painless sleep. It was surreal, I even touched my ear to confirm hahaha, no more pain.

Thank you, God, for that miracle. I woke up feeling great, no pain, my handkerchief soaked with the liquid from the ear. I cleaned the outer ear with some warm salty water and am good. Only thing is ear is partially blocked but I believe it’s the process of healing.

I still have an appointment with the nurse for the same injection, which am contemplating but I will definitely go, cause better that, than the pain I experienced.

In short, this just reminded me if SAME SCRIPT, DIFFERENT CAST. ONE EAR CONDITION, DIFFERENT DOCTORS /DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS.
Lord save us all.

Word of advice: DO NOT PICK YOUR EAR A LOT. Just use the ear swabs on moderation. Do not use blunt/sharp objects on/in your ear. (well I knew this but I still did it anyways.)

I still don’t know what I was suffering from L coz the symptoms were both combined.
